About Bugnay Wine
Bugnay (Antidesma bunius) is a small berry native to the Philippines. It grows in long, hanging clusters, and the berries ripen through red to a deep, dark purple, often unevenly, so a single bunch can show several colours at once. Ripe bugnay is tart, juicy and dark, a fruit that stains your fingers and stays in your memory.
Bugnay Wine is the dark heart of the ANA range. It follows the berry to its deepest shade: dark fruit, a gentle tartness and a colour that fills the glass. Open it when the food is rich and the evening is long, and pour it for friends who like a red with a story they have not heard before.
On the nose, dark berries, plum skin and a hint of spice. The palate is deep and juicy, with bramble fruit and the gentle tartness of ripe bugnay. The finish is warm, dark-fruited and lingering.
Serve lightly cool, at 14 to 16°C. Pour it with beef kaldereta, pork adobo or grilled liempo.
